MyLibrary2go.com
3:59
Virtual Librarians Adri & Shaye introduce library users to the PLS Virtual Library.
Arranged by subject - there are resources available for young and old - all from the comfort of your home.

Although recorded in a similar style - this video is in no way associated with the brilliant people behind the very successful Common Craft series.

[scene opens on a blank piece of paper, as someone off camera adds a cut-out cartoon figure of a female librarian (light blue shirt with collar, glasses, no hair)]
ADRI: Hi, this is Adri ...
[another person off camera adds another cut-out female librarian (purple shirt, yellow hair in a bun)]
SHAYE: And Shaye.
ADRI AND SHAYE: And we are virtual librarians!
SHAYE: Today, we wanna talk to you about the PLS Virtual Library.
[she adds a piece of paper with "Pioneer Library System, Connecting you to the joy of reading and to information for lifelong learning" printed on it]
SHAYE: There are two ways to get information ... the old way, and the new way.
[they remove the paper cut-outs, then add a cut-out cartoon figure of a male patron wearing a backpack]
ADRI: The old way is going to the library ...
[she adds a cut-out cartoon of a card catalog]
ADRI: Searching the card catalog by title, author or subject ...
[she adds a cut-out cartoon of a reel of microfilm]
ADRI: Or looking stuff up in microfilm.
SHAYE: What?
[she adds a piece of paper with a question mark written on it]
ADRI: This is the old way, and it's bad ...
[they both reach in from off camera and give a thumbs down]
ADRI AND SHAYE: Boo!
[they remove the paper cut-outs, then add a piece of paper with "MyLibrary2Go.com" printed on it]
SHAYE: The new way is going to MyLibrary2Go dot com, and searching everything before getting to the library.
[she adds a cut-out cartoon figure of a person sitting at a computer wearing pink footy pajamas]
[they both reach in from off camera and give a thumbs up]
SHAYE: From home, in your PJs!
ADRI AND SHAYE: Yay!
[they remove the paper cut-outs]
ADRI: So, what we are talking about is using a single website that is your library wherever you go.
[she places the paper with "MyLibrary2Go.com" back on the board]
ADRI: It's MyLibrary2Go.
[she removes the paper]
SHAYE: There are three steps to get started ...
[she slides a library card onto the board]
SHAYE: One, get a library card.
[she adds a cut-out cartoon of a computer with "Internet" written on the screen]
SHAYE: Two, get a computer with internet access.
[she places the paper with "MyLibrary2Go.com" back on the board]
SHAYE: And three, go to MyLibrary2Go dot com.
[she removes the paper cut-outs, then Adri adds a print-out of the MyLibrary2Go website]
ADRI: It looks like this. In the top-right corner is the search box to explore the library catalog, the entire Virtual Library, or to search Google.
[she reaches in from off camera and gestures towards the middle of the print-out]
ADRI: In this area are all of our online resources arranged by subject.
SHAYE: First, let's look at "Downloadables."
[they both point at one icon on the print-out, then add another print-out]
ADRI: Overdrive is our collection of e-books, audiobooks, and movies available for you to download and enjoy at home. On your computer, or on the go with your MP3 player or your e-book reader.
[she adds a cell phone and a Aluratek table to the board]
ADRI: Something like ... "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs."
[she clears the board, then adds a print-out of the cover to the book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"]
SHAYE: Second, let's look at ...
[she removes the print-out, then brings the original print-out of the MyLibrary2Go website back]
SHAYE: "Languages." ...
[Adri removes the print-out, then Shaye adds a print-out image of a mango fruit]
SHAYE: Mango--
ADRI: No no no no, not that kind of mango ...
[she removes the picture of the mango, and Shaye adds a print-out from the "MangoLanguages.com" website]
SHAYE: This kind of Mango is an online tool to learn Arabic, Chinese, Dari, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindu, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Pashto, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese ... as well as English as a second language. Whew!
[she removes the print-out, and Adri adds a print-out of a box of mangoes]
SHAYE: That was a lotta Mango!
[she removes the print-out, then brings the original print-out of the MyLibrary2Go website back]
ADRI: Third, you should look at the resources for students, elementary school students.
[she points at an icon on the print-out, then removes it and adds a print-out of the Brainfuse website]
ADRI: Brainfuse allows you to connect with real tutors everyday of the week, from two o'clock to eleven o'clock. They will help you with everything from third-grade English to advanced calculus.
[she removes the print-out, then adds a print-out showing "86-21=65"]
ADRI: They can even help Mom and Dad remember those math problems that they may have forgotten how to do ...
[she removes the print-out, then adds a print-out from Brainfuse's "Adult Learning Center" website]
ADRI: Or it can also help them prepare for a job interview by proofreading their resume.
[she removes the print-out]
SHAYE: So, a quick recap. Three things to do ...
ADRI: Once there, be sure to check out all of our resources that are available from the comfort of your own home, or on the go.
[she removes the paper cut-outs, then places the cut-out cartoon figure of a librarian back on the board]
ADRI: This is Adri ...
[she adds her cut-out librarian back on the board]
SHAYE: And Shaye.
ADRI AND SHAYE: With the Virtual Library, and this has been MyLibrary2Go dot com!
[the "MyLibrary2Go" logo appears on screen]
SHAYE: Special thanks to Common Craft for inspiring this style. This has been a promo for a service of your hometown Pioneer Library.

  1. Wow... I can only imagine how long it took you to transcribe that...and feel slightly bad for subjecting you having to listen to it more than once.

If you have any questions about why we did this video let me know -- and if you found that interesting (?) that one you may (?) enjoy our 26+ Check outs video we http://youtu.be/Je90XRRrruM
