Presents
Newark: A Cell Phone Free Library

[scene opens with black and white footage of the exterior of the Newark Free Library, then cut to inside of the library as a male librarian stands at the front desk next to a "No Cell Phones!" sign]
[he starts scanning some books, when he hears a ringing cell phone, so he picks up the sign and heads off camera]
[cut to a female patron talking on her cell phone, when the librarian walks up and taps her on the shoulder]
[he points at the sign, and the woman (with an apologetic look on her face) puts the phone away, so he smiles and pats her on the shoulder]
[cut back to the front desk, as the librarian returns to scanning books ... until he hears another ringing phone, so (with an annoyed look on his face) he picks up the sign again and heads off camera]
[cut to another female patron talking on her cell phone, when the librarian walks up and taps her on the shoulder]
[he points at the sign, and (with an annoyed look on her face) the patron simply holds up a finger - as if telling him to just wait a minute - and continues talking]
[he gets more animated and points at the sign again, so the patron (reluctantly) closes her phone and shrugs her shoulders before walking off]
[cut back to the front desk, as the librarian returns to scanning books (no longer as chipper as he originally was, knocking the "No Cell Phones!" sign over in exasperation) ... until he stops and stares wistfully at something on the desk]
[cut to a closeup of a photo on the desk (labelled "The Beach 2009" and featuring a woman near the ocean), then back to the librarian as he picks up another book to scan ... until he hears yet another ringing phone, so (with a look of disgust) he throws his hands up and heads off camera]
[cut to a young female patron talking excitedly on her cell phone, when the librarian walks up and tries to explain the rules to her ... instead, she gets an annoyed look on her face before turning her back to him (while continuing to talk on her phone)]
[the librarian tries talking to her again, but she just turns her back to him again ... frustrated, the librarian simply shakes his head and walks off]
[cut back to the front desk, as the librarian returns and rubs his eyes ... then (after checking to make sure no one is looking), he pulls a small flask out of his pocket and takes a swig]
[after shaking off the effects, he gets another frustrated look on his face, then cut back to the young female patron as she continues gabbing on the phone]
[cut back to the librarian, who suddenly smiles and holds up a finger (as if he's just thought of a great idea), then slowly drops down underneath the desk]
[cut back to the young female patron talking on her phone ... until the librarian walks up holding a spray bottle and spritzes her in the face with water, so she puts a hand over her eyes and runs off]
[the librarian stares directly at the camera, holds up the bottle, then smiles and gives a thumbs up]
MANAGER: [from off camera] Get over here!
[cut to the female manager standing in front of a bookcart, as the librarian slowly walks over while she accusingly wags her finger at him]
MANAGER: Go shelve books!
[she points off camera, so the librarian (with his head down) puts the spray bottle on the desk and pushes the cart in that direction]
[cut to the stacks, where the librarian has an exasperated look on his face, as he looks around and sees nothing but patrons talking into their cell phones ... he pushes the bookcart away and storms off]
[cut to the librarian in the men's room, staring at himself in the mirror, as he slowly puts on a black headband and picks up his spray bottle (while the theme from "Terminator" plays in the background)]
LIBRARIAN: Are you talking on a cell phone around me?
[he looks around, then continues psyching himself up by pointing at his reflection and screaming]
[cut back to the stacks, where patrons begin screaming and running out of the library ... as the librarian emerges and chases them away with his spray bottle]
[cut to the librarian pointing his spray bottle at another young female patron, who is sitting on a step stool and talking into her cell phone, when he grabs her and (as the theme from "Psycho" plays in the background) begins choking her]
[cut to the librarian emerging from the stacks and staring at his hands (as if he can't believe what he's just done), then quickly running away from the scene of the crime]
LIBRARIAN: She's dead!
[cut to the patron's lifeless body lying on the floor next to the step stool]
[cut to the librarian sleeping on the couch, when he suddenly wakes up (suggesting that it had all just been a bad dream)]
LIBRARIAN: Just a dream ...
[he rubs his eyes, then looks down and notices that his cell phone (sitting on the table in front of him) is ringing ... he smiles, then answers it, as "The End" appears on screen]
